Just went to stevesdigicams to look quickly and there are alot of cameras at 4 megapixels for $400 and under. I personally always start looking for something that I find cool looking or attractive. That being said the Cruiser fits that. Then I start to weed through everything. Looks, price and what the review says. I like a long zoom, optical, not digital. Optical is true while digital just zooms a picture of a picture of a picture. My camera is 7 zoom which is about one of the largest, there are larger but so is the price tag. Then there is the battery, proprietary or AA(rechargeable). Of course AA is cheaper and more convienent to buy. I went the proprietary route basically because I wanted that camera. I just bought another battery ($40.00 vs. $15.00) I had the Fuji 2800 which is great and I still use, replaced it with the Minolta A1 which as of now I am still learning to use. Its alittle tuffer but I am getting there. Go home and read those reviews at stevesdigicams, check out the looks, functions, prices and if you want goto Bestbuy and check afew out first hand. Of course digital cameras are alittle like computers, what you buy today will be replaced in a month or two with a newer version. Have fun shopping.

Please be aware, Sci-Fi would be able to expand all of this better then I, but the main thing is read a few reviews, see what is different from one camera to another and the choice is yours. You did the same thing when buying your cars.

My preferences in digital cameras are either Canon or Nikon. A general rule is to buy a camera from a well known or traditional camera company, but there are many happy owners that have cameras from computer or non-traditional camera sources. Go through the camera reviews at Digital Photography Review: http://www.dpreview.com/
They have reviews, both professional and from owners, and separate forums for each camera make. Prices vary by region and camera manufacturers tend to introduce new or replacement models every few months, so buying last years model could mean a good deal.

Pay close attention to any complaints from owners. Short battery life is a big complaint (you don't want a camera that eats batteries), ease of use (point and shoot) may be more important than multiple features or settings, what memory module type is used (some are universal and relatively cheap to buy (like CF or "Compact Flash" cards), comes in many different capacities, and can be used in other or future cameras, while others require use of one brand or their own memory modules), what accessories and software is included and is the software compatible with your operating system, etc. How many megapixels you want in a camera is directly related to how much you have or want to spend.

As far as taking good car pictures, I tend to use a tripod and take pictures during the late afternoon/early evening hours or indoor shots and in some cases, early morning hours. Experiment with your camera (digital or film) and take a lot of pictures at different times of the day, note the lighting conditions and position or angle of the sun relative to your camera shot, and try different camera settings and even try using the flash during the day for a few shots. With a digital, you can always immediately review and delete what you don't like and keep or print the rest when you get home. Some cameras allow filters, closeup lens, or hoods to be attached for more flexibility or for special effects shots. Here's an untouched handheld photo I took last year at the local marina of a sunset:

Sci-Fi
Thanks that does help some. I have been looking at a Canon. I will have to try some stuff with my 35mm, but I will still get a digital.

I use Gary's stuff. A friend of mine came over one weekend with his black Toyota Echo. We washed and waxed both his car and my PT using Gary's paint sealant and tire dressing. My friend was stunned by how well his Echo looked that he plans to buy some products for himself. I think I got you another fan, Gary!
