Default Gas Tank

I just bought a 2002 PT Cruiser LE. From empty I got about ll gallons in that tank and drove about 260 till almost empty. Does this sound right? I thought the cruizer has a 15 gallon tank. Anybody have a 2002 PT Cruiser LE and know how big thier tank is. I would look at the manual but don't have it with me. Looked online and it says that it should be a 15 gallon. Any help would be cool.

Hi welcome to the forum[8D], did you get a owners manual? I have a 2002 LE also yes I'm sure they hold 15 gallons. I've noticed even when I'm on empty I have a few gallons left. When your real low a lite will come on by speedomiter and a bell will ring. Even then youll have a couple of gallons left.

And if you keep going, you get 2 bell rings!
Always over a gallon left in tank, even when needle is on the E stop peg.
It's a 15 gallon tank.

A word of caution. As out resident GURU (MX-5) has pointed out in another thread, you should not go below 1/4 tank. This is what was said:

Being that the fuel is the only coolant for the fuel pump in the tank, you would be wise to refill long before the light comes on.

A $210 fuel pump and $200 labor for installation is good reason to keep the pump submerged in cooling fuel at all times.

I replace a lot of fuel pumps, but none on the customers who keep it above 1/4 at all times.
