Stirfry,

Supposedly you can call your local dealer and give him/her your VIN number and they can tell you if your part of any recall and if your PT has had the recall completed.

Just checked my '02, build date 4/02, looks like the hose has been rerouted and some kind of ribbed aluminum shielding installed around the hose, it now is about 2-2 1/2" away from the a/c hose.

It shouldn't. The fuel line should be rerouted away from the A/C lines and the clip will help prevent any rubbing/wearing from contact (see pics below):

BEFORE:

AFTER:

The problem I had was trying to convince the dealer to give me a fuel line clip for my 2002. The TSB for the 2002 didn't call for one, but the TSB for the 2001 does. (see my pic below w/o clip)

Hmmmm. Had my power steering pump replaced already when it failed at around 40K. Wonder if I still have to take it back to check the hose layout. Probably better safe than sorry.

I just called the chrysler dealer in fayetteville nc to set an appointment to get the recall work done. They came out and said "we don't have any knowledge of a recall" I proceeded to read the reuters report on yahoo to the lady and said "well, we still don't have any word on it, so you may have to wait for the recall card to come in the mail." GIVE ME A BREAK!!

I think you need to be a little more sensible about this one. The recall was just announced today so you can't seriously expect the dealerships to have all the answers immediately. They have to get the recall information from Chrysler, order in the parts, schedule the recall for every customer they have and fit all this in with their normal day to day work.

Just like the last big recall for the fuel lines, eventually everyone will get done.

PT Cruiser Engine Fires

I had a red 2001 PT Cruiser that burned April of this year. I drove about 2 miles and parked the car. I could see smoke coming from under the hood. I lifted the hood and saw flames. By the time the fire department arrived the engine was completely engulfed in flames. My insurance company totalled the car. Chrysler's inspector said that it started at the fuel line near the firewall. They apologized for my "inconvenience" and have offered to reimburse me for my deductible if I agree to sign a disclaimer that I will not sue them and that I will not speak of this to anyone in the future. I had the recalls done in 2002.

Believe it was on 01s and only very early 02s. I have an 02, and it wasn't recalled. Don't recall build date, but I purchased Oct 2001.

You have fire/theft on car insurance?
