Fuel System - 3 Part Cleaner Kit

Stopped in to the dealer for the 24,000 mile oil change, and he talked me into spending another hundred fifteen bucks on a 3 part fuel system combustion cleaner & intake kit.

I remember the fuel filter as a two buck filter somewhere in the fuel line.


At just 24,000, would you have bought it?

Don't know where you heard about the $2 fuel filter but the only filter the PT has is in the fuel tank along with the fuel pump and it's designed to last a long time.

Sorry, but I think you've been talked into an unnecessary expendature of $115 for your 3 part system cleaner. A $5 bottle of Techron from Wal-Mart would have been a better solution.

There are fuel system cleaners, but the really effective ones are those that are high-pressured cans that hook up to your fuel rail. These cleaners get rid of the gum and varnish in your injectors. They are not cheap and are only to be administered by your mechanic.

Techron is good. I use it every other oil change. Too much Techron (constantly using it) is bad for your oil [read the label if you don't believe me...].

techron is a good maintenance product. i have had the multi part fuel system cleaner administered to one of my vehicles a few years ago. it was a 76 Cad Eldorado, 8.2 liter, 500 cu in front wheel drive. it had 32,000 (verified) miles on it and bought it from a little old man (pushin' 80 big time) he had used it for back and forth to the store. i knew the carb was all gummed up--stinko mileage---balky acceleration. so it had the cleaner systemm done to the engine. when i went to the shop there were two long black stripes leading down the street from their driveway. i asked him if a certain general motors product was responsible, he said "uh huh" i smiled. the cleaner really is great at curing fuel system problems related to clogged nozzles or carb passages, so the product is well worth it, i just think that 24,000 mi. is a bit premature, but the real question is did it make any noticable difference?? if ur happy, the rest is just conversation. crewzin is right, the fuel filter is in the tank. not a $2 part.

I'm at about 74,000 miles, miuleage & acceleration still good - just6 a bottle of Techron every now and then. I replace plugs with platinums & get aftermarket wires (which I have) before cleaning fuel system at 24,000 miles.

You just wasted your money. There is no reason other than the dealers GREED to clean a fuel system at 24,000 miles period.

That's what I thought too, the dealer thanked me too much for letting him clean it.[xx(] ...but there is this unspoken pressure when the Chrysler Service Rep says "Your car only needs a..."!
