Default Oil change question.

Just wondering. I had the oil change only a few hundered miles back from Walmart great price for Syn oil. With engine cold, first time check today and it was 1/3 below the full mark. Had wifes done yesterday check hers also was not to full mark. Anyone else notice that kind of problem. Why would they leave it low like that?[:I]

stirfry, I've noticed sometimes when you check the oil on a cold engine it will read low. Did you reinsert the dipstick and check it again? Sometimes it will check OK the second try. Don't know why this is, but I've had that experience on various cars. Only other thing I could think of would be if they changed the filter and didn't add enough oil to make up for that.

Thanks; I check the dip stick about 3 times.
[8D]I think your right though about them not compensating for the oil filter when they change the oil. Something I'll keep and eye out for from now on.
Also wondering how many miles can one expect before the engine starts to burn oil?

I have used synthetic since new, now just under 75,000 miles, and not burning oil.[?]

If the engine is cold, all the oil should have drained back to the pan and you should have either a full reading or slightly higher reading on your dipstick.

As far as filters, I use Mobil 1, K&N, or Purolator PureOne filters. Been using synthetic oil since I got my PT home from the dealer. Mobil 1 0w-30 is what's in it now. Not using or burning any oil here.

I found a site that ships a case of 12 K&N filters for $96 total.
Truckperformance.com, I think.
I look for the 5-gallon jugs of Mobil1 5-30 at WalMart - less than $20!.
