I would like to paint over the tape marks on my 02 bumpers. What kind of prep and paint should I use? Is there anyway to recover from the tape marks, other than to paint the bumpers?

My 2002 was covered under warranty.

I don't think Chrysler would replace a 2002 pt bumper this late (2007).

I did a little research on the internet and found a possible fix. "This gray color tape look that shows up can be removed with #2 red scuffy and water." I assume that #2 red suffy is rubbing compound. The color is molded in to the plastic. I will give this a try and report back.

Don't be afraid to contact the dealer, they maybe will offer to repaint the bumpers under warrenty or will be able to tell you what to do.

I prefer to have the ugly tape marks rather then have to deal with a Chrysler dealer. Pretty sad, eh? Why yes, this probably is my last Cerberus product. Why do you ask?

Well, I talked to the dealer and only under 3yr. or 36000mi. would the paint be covered. I use a red compound for large scratches (I think maybe #2 red scuffy) and with a lot of elbo grease, I was able to get the tape mark(a small area) to lighten up. I will try a little more rubbing for better results. This will be a project of patients.

Well last night I used the red rubbing compound and did the rear bumper. After a long rubbing with a pad used to clean pots and pans (plastic mesh) with a follow up using a cotton cloth, the grey lightened up. When looking at it in a reflection, the plastic is etched but the grey is gone. I finished with a "finish between polishing". It looks a heck of a lot better. Now time will tell if this process holds.
