Default Headlight Removal/Replace

Hello,

I am new to this forum, however I have recently purchased a 2001 PT Cruiser, and so far love it. However my wife got into an accident already, and we had to have the body shop replace the fender and headlight on the passenger side. Of course the insurance wouldnt replace the drivers side, so now one headlight looks new, and the other is nasty.

Didnt find this thread when searching the forum, so thought I would ask, anyone know how to remove the headlight? I am going to buy a new one of ebay, but need to know how to get in there to remove the actual headlight (not bulb) so I can put the new one in.

Is there a DIY area in this forum tha tI am missing???

Thanks everyone

I searched for Headlight Removal and found the following info:

From the Chrysler Service Manual:

REMOVAL
(1) Raise vehicle on a hoist.
(2) Remove wheel and tire.
(3) Remove splash shield as necessary to access
headlamp housing.
(4) Remove grille.
(5) Remove the two fascia bolts from behind the
grille (Fig. 15) and (Fig. 16).
(6) Remove fasteners attaching fender to fascia on
the side being worked on.
(7) Remove the three fasteners holding the lower
fascia to the lower radiator crossmember.
(8) Remove four nuts attaching headlamp housing
(Fig. 17).
(9) Remove headlamp housing by lowering the fascia
as necessary (Fig. 18) and (Fig. 19).
(10) Disconnect wire connectors (15-19)

Hooligan,

Great help on the headlight removal except the links to the pictures don't work, at least for me.

By the way, nice job on the chrome on your PT, never seen that lower grill before.

Thanks for the compliment, the lower grille came from Maggie from Race and Street. I went on fairly hard as there wasn't much room between the radiator and the grille. Glad I have small hands.

I can't help about the links, maybe because it was a older post. I figured
2K1pt could do the same search and possibly go from there.

Thanks for the help on that, I was at work at the time, and while quickly trying to search, I was unable to find any good info.

I will have to look into it from there.

Thanks again...

So, I am bringing my own thread back from the dead.

I changed out the headlight today...

BOY WHAT A PITA....!!!!!

The Hanes manual was pretty useful, but the wheel well didn't want to come out, and then the rubber seal around the light was keeping if from pulling out.

All in all, not as bad as I feared, but not as easy as I hoped...
