City driving that is about it. Highway I have gotten up to 28. The PT is "like a brick" as far as air resistance goes and it is a heavy car as well.

Welcome to the forum!!!

I have kept records for both of our PT and here's the results:

2002 after just over 5 years of ownership
Overall combined avg.= 20.7 MPG
Worst = 14 MPG (winter/snow driving -Yes, we drive our PTs in the snow!)
Best = 33.1 MPG

2003 - non/turbo with just about 2.5 years of ownership
Overall combined avg. = 20.4 MPG
Worst = 14 MPG
Best = 32.0 MPG

I have a very sophisticated Excel spreadsheet that I have used both for my 2000 Grand Caravan Sport and my 2005 PT Cruiser Convertible that I bought brand new 6 weeks ago.

I was just looking at it and the highest I got was 34 mpg and a low of 26 mpg (CDN) which would be 27.2 mpg and 20.8 mpg (US). The car still only has 2300 kms. or 1400 miles so I'm assuming that it will increase. Another thing I noticed is that the gas mileage drops significantly after 70mph. These cars aren't exactly streamlined especially my convertible.

Regards
Terry

My PT has a built in MPG readout.
I get 19.8mpg, that is averaged over a month of daily driving.

I drive about 250 miles a week to and from work. About half is 2 lane country roads and the other half is 4 lane highway. I can drive between 45 and 60 mph the whole trip and get between 23 and 24 mpg. And thats with the A/C on part of the time.

My 2003 with some modifications just completed a 1010 mile trip using 33.2 gallons. That's 30 mpg! That was 80-90% freeway, at 60mph on cruise control, occasional ac, around 2500 rpm with the 5 speed. If you are willing to drive in the slow lane, this is what is possible.

2001 PT Cruiser 5-speed with 83,000 miles.

We get 22-24 around town and 28-31 on the highway. The A/C doesn't seem to effect in-town driving. Highway MPG drops to 26-30 with the A/C on. We don't have cruise control.
