I have a 2004 Limited Edition PT Cruiser with 27,500 miles on it. I cleaned some corrosion off of the battery last weekend. When I started the car up, the CD player shuffled through the cd's. A few days later when I went to listen to a CD, the radio would not even register that there is a CD player in the car. It just goes from AM to FM. The Chrysler service guy said he'd seen this and that this was a problem with some of these cars. Said it would cost me about $600 and that my CDs are stuck in there until the radio is pulled apart. Also said it'd be cheaper to take it to an audio store and have a new radio put in. The car's warranty expired in April 07.
As I said, the car only has 27,500 miles on it!!! Plus, I have Sirius so I rarely listen to anything but satalite so how does something like this get broken with so little use???? Has anyone heard of this issue? Any advise? I looked all over the internet & didn't see much on this. Thanks! ajc |

Never heard of your problem before. I'd get another opinion from a stereo shop that specializes in car stereos. When my stereo in my Vette went haywire, I was told on the Corvette forums of a place that specializes in just such things. Contacted them and sent them my stereo. Had it back fixed in about a week. Take a look at this site for more info:
Audio & Video Service Stop Oh yea, WELCOME to the forum.

Our battery just died, when we replaced it the radio is fine, but the CD player won't respond to the keys... it clunks around like it's got a jammed disk, but nada. It's also a 2004... any luck?
It's not the fuses, it sounds like a chip or computer rebooting error. |

I had this happen to my stock CD- Radio . When I changed the battery (only 2
years old) on my 05. The radio would play but it fried the circuit to the player. At the time I was covered under the warranty . |

Ours just slid out of warranty... of course. That must be what happened ours... the charge voltage was too much for the CD boards.
