Default Oil pan, threads came out!!!???

My 03 Turbo was in for an oil change and when the mechanic removed the screw, the threads inside the oil pan came out, they had to replace the oil pan, luckily they didn't charge me. I never heard of that happening before, anyone else? when they showed me the old pan it looked as if someone just drilled the hole clean, weird????????Gary

Sounds to me like the mechanic over tightened the bolts and pulled them out.

It's an aluminum pan and a steel bolt, so overtighetning can do that. With proper torque, there's no problem.

You are lucky the shop ate the cost of doing the right repair.

Some places would just force in a bigger plug, or one of them rubber 'univeral' oil plugs, and never mention it to you.
