I was only getting 260-275 miles per tank (before the gas light comes on)

I did nothting but change the air filter to a K&N drop in and on my 1st tank since the change I got 305 BEFORE the gas light came on....

I WAS FREAKING SHOCKED! Pretty decent up in gas milage for just a drop in filter

Hey guys.
I've been wondering about this myself for a while. I have a 2001 Limited, drive almost all city, and only get an average of 14 miles to the gallon. I had heard that it would be bad, but after reading what all of you wrote, I'm starting to wonder if something else is wrong. I did just change the oil and the filter. Maybe that will help.

Thanks,
-Daneale

It's an automatic. I just got it in March when I was rear-ended, which totalled out my last car.

I just had to have the oil sending unit replaced also. This was due to the fact that I am a do-it-yourself kind of girl, but in training to figure these things out myself. I couldn't find it when I tried, after I bought the part. Ugghh.

Also, I just had both front tie rods replaced a couple of days ago.

New tires about a month ago.

Thanks,
Daneale

You take it down to the gas light all of the time and you will be replacing your fuel pump. Read what MX-5 has to say. He is a ASE certified mechanic and a PT guru.

I have a gearhead friend who also recommended a couple of ounces of Lucas Fuel Additive
in the tank w/every fillup.

My best investments towards better mileage so far have been:
A lighter foot (Free /no fun)
Keep tire air pressure at top of spec (Free)
Put 'er in neutral and coast up to red lights (Free)
Use cruise control (Free)
Take out rear seats if you don't use them (Free)

Stuff that made a significant difference in performance:
Crane Firewires & Bosch Platinum plugs ($70 +/-)
K&N Air Filter ($30 +/-)
new PCV valve ($4)

Don't know but did it anyway:
Mobil 1/K&N Oil Filter
Lucas Fuel Additive every fillup
Reset computer (disconnect neg battery cable for 5 - 10 min.)

I learned all this stuff here. Getting 24 mpg around town, 27 on hwy.
