Is it time to move on?? Considering the price of gas at $3.20 per gallon here is buying Toyota Corolla or similiar that gets 32MPG easily worth doing?? I would like honest replies.

Honest? Is a new car payment worth saving a few cents on gasoline? That's what most owners would be facing. I've heard that gas will probably spike to $4 a gallon, then when the oil companies bring it back down to $3.25 - $3.50 we'll be so glad, we'll just suck it in and be thankful. People will stop traveling as much as they do and change their driving habits, but sell the car and take on new payments, don't think so.

Looking around for an older, smaller more fuel efficient car might be an option but do you really want to sell a newer car for someone's older used vehicle?

The PT's low 20's gas mileage (in most cases) isn't that bad and if you really changed your driving habits, you could increase it a couple miles per gallon.

This is all generally speaking. Everyone's in a different situation, especially financially. If if ever gets to $5+ a gallon, I'd even think of selling the wife's KIA crossover for a Hybrid, but I'd still keep my PT and my Vette.

I am waiting for the EV PT Cruiser. It is already on the road in certain areas. Chrysler should have the EV PT Cruiser in its lineup to compete with the Chevy Volt, still in development, and to replace the Turbo model that has been discontinued. Short in town commutes means no gas at all. Can't wait!

Thumbs down Re: YES! Another gas mileage rant!

Now, who would be stupid enough to think that you could run an electric cab for 8 hours without a recharge!
Chrysler designers & executives, of course!
I agree! It's time for a body and powertrain redesign for the PT! (...by some smart, creative people)

suddenly I am thinking I bought the wrong car.
No, it's not only a PT thing.
In just about any vehicle, if you keep too little gas in the tank for a long enough time, the pump will suffer because it's the surrounding gasoline which cools it.

P.s.,
I've got an '03 Turbo with autostick.
It has no trouble getting 21 to 22mpg driving a 50/50 mix of highway and city roads.
Of course, I drive like an old man most of the time. LOL.

I've got an '03 GT with Stage 1 and can consistently get 27+ at freeway speeds. Around town with lots of starts and stops the mileage is in the 17-18 range. The car is 5 years old, but still is comfortable and reliable. It sure beats a huge monthly payment. I agree on the fuel pump issue. Running any tank to the warning light can only lead to premature failure and could eventually leave you stranded with an empty tank. If gas goes to $4.00 a gallon, we can all benefit from being smarter about our driving.

This is the second PT that I've had. The first was the light turbo. I've had the GT since '05. The gas mileage is similar for both, about 19.5 mpg for my combined driving. I drive about 35,000 miles per year and have about 74K miles on my '05 GT. My gas bill is about $600. per month. If I went to a Honda Civic, my gas bill would be cut in half. My 2001 Corvette convertable gets better mileage than the GT at about 23 average combined. The only thing I don't like about the PT is the gas mileage. I love everything else.
