Help..rear hatch

I have a 2003 cruiser with manual locks and mirrors. This may sound really dumb but i can not figure out how to lock the rear hatch. I've looked all over but can not figure it out.

Doesn't key do it? Turn counter-clockwise, I'd think.

you can lock/unlock the rear hatch? wow. I must have gotten the base of the base models because the only way I can open up the rear hatch is to unlock it with my key.

thanks for the help...I was hoping there was a latch or button inside that i could lock the hatch with. I knew about the key lock but for some reason it won't lock. Since there is no other way to get the door to lock except for the key then i'll just get the lock checked out. thanks again
