Finally got the PT back today from the shop. As it turns out there was more damage than they initally thought, so it took a little longer to fix. But they did find that the braces that hold the radiator and cooling fans is bent. It looks like it is something that happend before we purchased the car. They said that it will not affect driving and there are no leaks but it should be fixed. So we are not sure what to do now. Besides that the damage that happened in the crash is fixed and looks great.

We got an estimate to fix that. It came to $900. So we are not sure if we are going to do it.

i hate to play the devils advocate here, but looking over the pics of your damage, i dont see any way that it could have caused the cooling system bracing to be damaged. you would have had to get a LOT harder than that to damage that far in, and if that was the case, youd have a LOT bigger bill than the 2200 you were originally quoted. Chances are they are right and it was from a previous accident. its sad to know that there are hack bodyshops out there that wil leave damage like that just to save themselves a buck and a little hassle, but its the truth. i deal with previous damage every day. insurance wont cover it, they never do. I take it you bought the car used, and you probably paid extra for that CARFAX report that came back with a clean bill of health. reporting of accidents is voluntary, and nobody will do it unless forced. Until it is mandatory for ALL repair facilities and ALL insurance companies to report to CARFAX, CARFAX will remain a ripoff! the best thing you can do is go around to several reputable bodyshops and get several estimates. just remeber that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

I just got hit two weeks ago and my 2005 Plum PT was totalled (older woman, not a teenager). In California, anything over $750 MUST be reported to the DMV. Now, if you go and pay for the work yourself, it is possible that it wont be. But if your insurance pays it *will* be reported.
BTW, the PT performed admirably in a head on collision (me, 35-40 mph, her 25 or so, turning left in front of me). Both airbags deployed but other than bruised knees and chest (shoulder belt) I walked away with nothing. The driver's side front end was destroyed--I feel very lucky. No more PT crashes, please!
