Angry 2007 PT Malfunction Indicator Light

Please help, The On Board Diagnostic System has turnes on the light. I put a new gas cap on trying to fix the problem. No luck. I can not find any loose hoses. What problem with the automatic transmision turns on the light? Is this a problem many have had?
Thanks

Welcome.
With an '07, you should let the dealer fix it - for free.

Easiest is to go to an autoparts store - most of them will plug in a reader and read the code for you for free.

If you want to do it yourself, it's easy, too...
Engine off.
Turn key to "on" (right before starter would come on)
Turn back one click to "off"
"on"
"off"
"on"

The on-off 3x should give you a code in the odometer window like P301 then "done". You should always get at least "done".

Post back with what you find.

Quicksilverdon,

Quicksilverdon,
The do it yourself fix was very helpful. When I ran the test I got no code just the "done". I was sucessful in extinguishing the light by removing the negative battery terminal for tem minutes to let the computer rest. Then reataching the lead and "vola" no light. I drove the car to the airport to dinner and home with no faults. If I knew where you where I would send you a bottle of Scotch.

Good. It was probably just a 1-time misfire. It triggers the light, but sometimes doesn't generate a code. The light would've gone off by itself in time if the problem didn't recur.

where exactly do you start? I have 3 different areas to start~ once to put in the key, another to turn on the panel (senser, odometer and mileage) and the 3rd to turn on the engine. I did the first two starts, and the odometer window still comes up blank. *scratches head*

guess I'll just have to go to Autozone and have that done hopefully for free.

cruisinbabe,

The second click forward where the panel lights up is as far as you want to go.

Make the panel "light up" three times and at the 3rd time it lights up leave the key pointing forward with the panel lit and it will either give you a code or say "done".

One more thing, turn the key 3 times in a space of about 5 seconds. Don't hesitate between turns.
