After 3 months of dickering with Chyrstler, they finaly are taking back my 06. They never did find out what causes the car to suddenly go beserk; all lights on dash flash, low gas warning comes on, speedometer goes back and forth like a windshield wiper and rpms drop to 500. This happened several times the last time as I was merging into a rotary ( round about) and a Mack truck was aimed at my broadside. It was only the skill of the driver that saved my tush.
So they are taking back the black 06 5 speed manual and giving us an 08 Limited edition, Sunset BLVD, in red also 5 speed manual. If you have problems with your dealer or Chrysler the best way to get their attention and get what you need is by contacting a local Watchdog of your largest Newspaper or TV station. Within 24 hours of letting our dealer know the local paper was about to print our story, and their response which was initially that this is NOT a safety issue, they did a 180o and are going to pony up for the new car. Be persistent and civil and you'll get what you need. As Pete Seager said " take it easy, but take it" I'll let you know how the 08 works out..gotta go buy some bling and new wires 1st. Thanks for your help,Brenddie |

I had the same problems. Took months but they finally got it fixed. At least I have had no problems since Aug. They replaced the dash, ignition, the computer, plus several other parts. They told me that no one had ever seem this problem before and I was the only one. But you have the forth '06 PT Cruiser I know of with this problems.

I'm impressed you got them to give you a new one, congratulations. I guess the dealer must have seen the problem. I have an intermittent electrical problem but every time I take it to the dealer they claim they can't replicate it and the car's fine. Until they give it back, that is. Oh they also say they've never heard of my problem before, same old story.

Mine just quit in traffic a couple of times So it is a safety problem. Think it is time to write to the NHSA. I have had far more problems with my '06 in 42,000 miles then I had with the '01 in 96,000. And I do not have any faith in the car even though it appears to be fixed. Since I liked the '01 I am thinking of trading for an '08 before the drive train warranty runs out at 60,000.

Just picked up the 08 Sunset Blvd edition, what a beauty. Waiting for warm weather to put the exterior bling on. I have rims!Anyone with the same problems should make copies of what youv'e read on line about similar problems, including mine, and use that as ammo, Also check out your states Lemon Law, this IS a safety issue despite what Chystler claims. See if you have a local newspaper or TV station that has a consumer advocate, Our local paper puts the offender of the week on the front page of the Sunday paper over the banner, NO dealership wants this kind of press As for want the dealership did to fix the problem Not a thing, they would not put a nickle of their money into trying to fix it. They do not get reimbursed by the company unless there is a computer code...no code number and you're outta luck. Leaving the car with them hoping it will happen is just a way of them jerking your chain, the odds of it happening while they're driving it are slim. Although I am not a fan of Consumer Reports, generally their car info is helpful, it is worth noting that the 06 was the ONLY year the PT did not make it onto hte recommended list..wish I knew that before. To all you guys with the same proplem keep plugging away at it, don't let the m wear you down. Good Luck I'll check back in with a picture of my new PT, Brenddie |

You earned a new car. Seems stupid to me from Chrysler's point of view - would've been cheaper to fix your car, but doing nothing was guaranteed not to fix it....
