Wink Re: Clock and horn quit working

Yes, I have the same symptoms. The light on the radio will go out, however the radio still works. (Music, no station or time display). Since my last post, I replaced the factory radio with a Kenwood stereo. Not because of the problem, I just wanted better sound. Now with the new stereo, I have no problem with the readout display, however the horn still has a mind of its own. I will deal with it just the way it is.

My 2003 has same problem. Tilting steering wheel all the way up solves it, but it is a short in the "clockspring" in the steering wheel. Not an expensive part to replace, but one must be careful dealing with the airbag. I saw a diagram on the internet somewhere to repair the problem, but can't remember exactly where. (perhaps google it).

Last I checked a clockspring for the PT was about 150 bucks! I was looking into getting one but decided I could deal with it...
My PT does the same thing, if you move the tilt up and down the radio display and horn come and go. I can also pull the bottom of the wheel towards me and get the display to come back on.

Lots of owners had problems with the wiring harness that runs down the teering column. That's why when adjusting the wheel, it sometimes fixes some of the problems. The harness gets stretched or pulls on the electrical connection and moving the steering wheel up and down tightens or loosens the harness. Might want to take a look under the steering wheel at the harness for any stretching or wear.

I have had all the covers off the column before to check for a wiring problem. No matter how I moved the wires nothing with the radio or horn changed. Only touching the wheel and tilt made a difference...
