Default Heat Defrost Control Help

I have a 2002 P.T. and the temp control will not go to the defrost setting.

When I turn it to defrost is springs back and will not stay in the defrost position.

Doesn't matter where the fresh/internal air switch is, that will move to the fresh air position but it will still not remain in the defrost position.

If I manually hold the switch in the defrost position and turn the fan on nothing coms out of the vents.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks,

Jason

What it seems like you are describing is the flipping of the fresh/recirculate switch (far right) from recirc back to fresh. I'll run out to the garage and check, but i know that I can put it in recirc and floor heat, but when I go to defrost, it'll flip back to fresh. The defrost selector is combined with "face" air, floor heat, defrost, with some blend positions inbetween. Recirc/fresh is by itself. ( remaining two switches are fan speed and temp control)

OK The layout is Fan control, air direction control, temp and fresh/recirc.
I can recirculate in everything but the defrost position of the air direction control. If you're seeing the far right control flip to the left, I think it's normal. Like you're not supposed to recirculate in defrost.

Red face Re: Heat Defrost Control Help

There was a previous post on this.
When you want to defrost your windows, you want an equalization of outside & inside humidity. If you recirculate to defrost, you are creating a bigger difference between inside & outside humidity, and are fighting an uphill battle with Mother Nature.
Now the 2006, which I have, let's you push in a recirc button. But, when you turn the air flow control over to "defrost" the recirc light goes out. That's to keep you from doing something you shouldn't do, if you really want your windows to clear quickly.

Nexium thats how it is supposed to work. But what I mean is that the switch physically will not stay in the defrost position it springs away from defrost.

No matter what the circ/fresh air setting is at.

GM Jason - OK. My next move would be to take the control panel out, see if it disassembles, and if so, look for a piece of broken plastic or linkage that fell off. Chances are that the panel is not really meant to be fixed, just replaced.

Nexium,

hmmm...not sure how to remove it. Guess I'll have to bring it in to the shop..Unfortunately I live in a small town nearest shop 2 1/2 hours away.

I have the same issue going on. Were you able to figure out the problem and find a fix?
