Default Turning the AC compressor off during defrost mode?

I remember reading somewhere, maybe PT DIY but I cannot find the article that talks about disabling the AC compressor when the defroster is on.

Its very annoying to have the compressor running when the windows have fogged, because no matter what it only takes two seconds to clear the window, regardless of temp.

If anyone can find this article, KUDOS!!

The whole point to having the compressor run with the defrost on is that it removes moisture from the air. I've had some old cars that don't do this. If you get a little snow on the hood it sucks it into the cabin air intake, then blows it out of the defrost and instantly turns your window white. Not cool!

Here's the article. I found it at ptcruizer.com

"Disabling the air conditioner when in Defrost mode

A quick way to gain some power in winter. (A/C can still be used during defrost when desired by switching the fan control to the blue dots.)

1. Use a trim stick (soft tool to prevent marring), pry out window switch bezel on the dash.

2. Disconnect power window control switch (slide the red locking tab prior to removing connector), remove screw inside switch opening, use trim stick and pry out the center bezel assembly, gently lift up and out (has locating tabs at bottom) then remove bezel. The heater control knobs will also pop off, don’t worry the knobs are keyed so they can only be reinstalled in the correct position.

3. Just above and to the left of the heater/defrost select knob shaft are three ribbons of metal about an 1/8 inch wide. Drill a hole through the lowest one, making sure to sever it completely without cutting the one above it.

4. Reinstall the bezel (and the screw), heater control knobs (remember they—re keyed, don’t force them), and power window switch assembly (be sure to push the red locking tab back into place on the connector).

Yes, that's permanent, but A/C will still come on in other settings, like when you turn dial to the blue.

I think the reason the window clears in two seconds is BECAUSE of the A/C being on. It acts as a dehumidifier and evaporates the moisture almost instantly. Without it you can be blowing humid air and until the engine heats up it is difficult to clear the moisture. Under certain conditions the defroster can actually CAUSE misting on the glass without the A/C.
As I am a card-carrying geezer, I have had many cars (back in the day) that had no A/C and remember having to wipe the inside windshield with a rag even with the defrosters going.
Just out of curiosity, why do you find it so annoying to have the A/C come on during defrost?

Loss of responsiveness. Its really a lot less responsive when the AC is on, I hate it!

But, its been okay recently there hasn't been much rain.

The windows usually fog when friends are in the car.
