Default Would not start this morning

Hi everybody have been busy and not around much sorry for that. This morning I went to go to work and the starter just clicked once. Tried to jump and it did no good. I had full power for accesories and 2 different meters showed over 12 volts. So I called a wrecker and I'm waiting to see what's wrong. If anybody has any thoughts I'd like to hear them. Thanks in advance. Joel

UPDATE: OK I just called the mechanic and he says it's the starter. OK, never gave me a clue that it was going bad just went. I hate it though when everybody whines about working on PT's. I mean they are getting paid and that's what it takes to get the job done just do it. So if everything goes good I should be back on the road tonight which is good cause I live alone. I called an auto parts just to see what one llists for and I was told $140 so it should not be too bad in the pocket. First time it has ever broke down. Best wishes to everybody.

How well do you trust the mechanic? 9 out of 10 times it's the starter solenoid and not the starter. A lot cheaper and easier to fix but the shops don't make as much profit.

Too late for that kind of advice Bob. He's already taken it to his mechanic.

Yeah, starters don't seem to have a predicable life, sometimes they just go...

Sometimes solenoid, sometimes the get a "flat spot" or dead spot, sometimes they just die - my experience....

Thanks everybody but didn't have much of a choice. Cost me $225 for a new starter, installed. Could have been worse I guess. It's the 1st repair I've done in over 4 years and 45k miles. So I'll count my blessings.
