I was thinking about switching out my manual locks for power locks, and i was just curious if anyone has done it before. Im not extremely mechanically inclined, so i want to make sure it wouldnt be too much for me handle. Thanks for any input guys!

Can't recall anyone doing it. I'd say to invest in the factory manual.

When I got the stereo put in my car I got loaned the work truck from their shop. It was a base model Chevy 1/2 ton with no options. They also do remote starters at the shop. What they did for the power locks on the truck is install a solenoid to lock/unlock the doors, then they wired these to the remote start. They didn't have to worry about interior switches, and the wiring should be fairly easy as they just need a power source, and then I guess communicate with the remote start. I'm not sure if that route is possible on the PT, but it might be easier than trying to install the factory switches and lock assemblies.

Most of chryslers power door lock motors are built into the door latch assembly, so you would have to get all 5 latchs so theres some big $$$
then you will need wiring and connectors for all the doors, and oh and a keyless entry module which may or may not plug into the back of your cluster module to make the hole thing work. Best advice get aftermarket lock solionds and maybe a remote start system to control them Its just more cost effective and plan smarter. |
