the owner's manual says that if i push the button on the left that shows temperature and mileage, i'll eventually get to the personal settings to change headlamp delay and stuff. i just can't because it's turned off..

i guess there's some kind of secret programming that dealerships or rental places can put in so that people don't change them all the time...

I just got one as a rental and found the instructions in the user manual. You seem to have to be inside the car for this to work:

On non EVIC-equipped vehicles perform the following steps:
1. Press the LOCK button for four to ten seconds.
2. While the LOCK button is pressed (after four seconds), press the PANIC button. Release both buttons.
The "Sound Horn On Lock" and "Flash Lamps With Lock" feature can be reactivated by repeating this procedure.

You can download the user manual from here:

It seems to be a fact that not all newer Cruisers have the Personalization Menu feature. Thanks to Bookman, I learned how to find the menu that changes from Metric to English, but that's about all I can change on my '08 Base model.
Thanks for the key button info, Jeff.

Look about 4 posts above your question, notice that there is a owners manual also to download. Even tho it is for a 2004 and you didn't mention what year your PT is, the basic instructions remain the same.

Ok I tried the above and it changes nothing, I also looked in the manual and I could not find the section on this. It only explains if you have the evic feature which I do not. Oh I just bought a 2008 Sedan and I have owned it for a few days and so far I love the drive.

On the previous post it is missing the first part of the instructions needed to disable the horn. I believe the manual is missing step one. Let me know if this works.

Press and release the LOCK button on the transmitter to lock all doors. The turn signal lights should flash and the horn will chirp once to acknowledge the lock signal. If desired, the “Sound Horn On Lock” and “Flash Lamps With Lock” feature can be turned on or off. On the PT Cruisers with no EVIC perform the following steps:

1. Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn the switch to the ON position.
2. Press the LOCK button for four to ten seconds.
3. While the LOCK button is pressed (after four seconds), press the PANIC button. Release both buttons.

The “Sound Horn On Lock” and “Flash Lamps With Lock” feature can be reactivated by repeating this procedure.

I would suggest introducing yourself to the forum. Tell us a little about your PT Cruiser and how you came to get it.

I assume all of this only relates to the MK2 model. My old 2000 MK1 does not beep and there is no panic button on the keyfob.

Unless of course someone knows how to do this.

Once again thanks for the info, still nothing. I need to deactivate the horn peep and the auto lock feature. I use this as my service car and it is silly for me to unlock the PT 10 times a day at every visit. I will keep on looking.
