2003 Pt Cruiser Turbo - AC DONT WORKIE

Hello,

I have an AC that just went out on me and I am curious if anyone out there has ever looked into fixing there AC by themselves. I talked to a shop and they said it would be $125 just to do a diagnostic check on the AC unit and die ran through the hoses to check for leaks. I have a friend that had the AC on his car go out and all he did was went to a auto part store and bought a can of FREON Refrigerant to recharge his car's AC. It was only 30 bucks and all you have to do is hook it to the High pressure input on the AC pipe.

My question is to just see if there are any common problems with the specific 2003 Pt Cruiser 2.4L Turbo's AC that I should know about?

Any help is appreciated if anyone has had any experience with AC problems.

Welcome.
Nothing specific to the PT. It's usually either a leak or the compressor. Not sure whether an '03 uses freon or R134. With freon and it's impact on the ozone layer, laws were passed so they aren't just supposed to refill with freon without finding and fixing a leak.

all vehicles produced after 95 use 134a refrigerant. the problem with refilling the system yourself is that to properly refill the system, you need to vacuum the AC system out and have a vacuum in the system. then you can refill the system to the correct amount. yeah, it costs money, but have a shop refill your ac. their equipment can put the right amount of both refrigerant and oil in the system. you can do a dye test yourself, there are kits on the market to do this for a relatively cheap price.
