I live in IL and I have an 2003 turbo, yesterday I got three tickets, one for no license plate on the front, one for tinted windows, and one for a clear cover over my rear license plate. This is Bull _ _ _ _!!!. I have been driving this car for 5 years the same way, now in my own town I get busted, I found out all our edler police officers have retired and we have a bunch of new officers on the force, trying to make a name for themselves, at my expense. I refuse to put a front plate on, I will sell the call before I give in, it makes the car look like crap. I did find a way to get around the tint....I was told that if you get a doctor to sign off that you are sensative to light, either skin or eyes ( I just had my cataracts removed ) you can get a special plate that allows tint. I plan on going that way, I heard of a hidden license plate bracket, anyone know about that ????????????Thanks, Gary

Im too in IL...not too far from u and I get the rundown for everything like that too. But usually they dont give me a ticket for a license plate cover or no front plate just warnings cuz they kno its beatable in court and its a waste of everyones time.... Usually those things are just a reason to stop u, if not anything else. The cop u dealt with must of been a real B*tch(as most r) to write u up on all 3 things. sometimes I think its jealousy of what ur driving and not so much the law cuz sometimes they dont even pay attention to "no front plate" when i get pulled over occasionally....

And ive been through the same route for tinted windows... got a ticket for it when I first got it on yearz ago and the cop even showed up to court just to make sure i couldnt get away with it. They get me for Neons too... IL is one of the most strictist states when it comes to laws...

We have the same tint and rear plate laws in Florida but rarely are they enforced. Some of the deputies do carry a special tint meter if they want to force the issue but a lot depends on how the driver reacts when stopped. They are used for stopping vehicles to look for other more enforceable issues like suspended licenses or impaired driving.
Like you said Gary, new recruits looking to make a name for themselves.

What city was this in? Like Elmhurst or some uppety, preppy city with nothing better to do? It can't be Chicago cause they hardly ever pull people over, and they'd never bust your balls giving you three tickets in one stop. So where was it?
I've never heard of a problem with a clear plate cover. I had one for 7 years in Chicago with no questions asked. The front license plate Illinois has always been a stickler for. The tint, you can go limo tint in the back, but they won't let you do any up front .... unless it's factory tinted. If you could find front glass with like 50% integrated tint, you'd be good to go. |

It's all about revenue. As I once said while getting a ticket - "you're giving me a ticket because you can, not because I deserve one". He didn't reply.

The town was Roselle
here is what poeple are doing on the Solstice forum about the front plate. you get a boggus sales receipt for a front plate bracket, when you get stopped you tell the officer (and show him the receipt) the order for the bracket, that should get you off, he he still gives the ticket, you go to court, take a picture of the plate on the car ( put it on with wire ties) show the judge, cases dismissed, take plate off repeat as nessessary......
