I have a 2002 PT Cruiser. My insurance card says Dream Cruiser but lately its been a little bit of a nightmare. The car drives great as it has for the past 6 years and I still love it. But lately when I apply the brakes the car will begin to stop as usual then all of a sudden it starts to jerk really weird. This only happens when I am braking or sitting there with my foot on the brake at an intersection. Kinda feels like the brakes are catching then letting go, then catching again. Sorry for the weird description, but...So, yesterday the engine light popped on and the fault codes were 1684 and 1924. My husband, after I told him about the engine light, finally took me seriously and looked under the hood this AM.
He found two hoses, one by the manifold and one related to the brakes that had holes in them. Our last trip to the dealership to have the power steering switch replaced ended up being a two week, $1500 ordeal, so he wants to replace these hoses and see if that works before we deal with the dealership again. Any thoughts on this kind of trouble, or anyone out there had it happen to them? THANKS THANKS THANKS!!!! |

Mine does that, but it's nothing serious. It just feels like the car is reving up by itself, but I believe it's just the fan that kicks on to make it do that.
Try to search the forums to find if anyone else has posted those fault codes, or have had the same problem. Good luck!

I believe that is the transmission downshifting. Mine is fairly jerky when stopping, I think my tranny is telling me it's getting tired. I have asked for problems, the car is either idling or it's floored!
![]() If you haven't done so yet you might want to think about changing your transmission fluid. That could be the ticket. If you take it to a shop make sure they use Mopar ATF+4 fluid, not Dexron/Mercron III or you'll be back in short order. ![]() Hope that helps, Ben
