Hi Everyone! I'm new here and I've been reading various postings here and there. I tried searching for posts on headlight lens removal, but the search engine did not find anything.
My problem - the dreaded oxidized headlight lens. I tried Maguires Plastix cleaner/conditioner because I could not find Mother's brand as suggested in posts here. This didn't put a dent in the discolorization. Someone suggested I remove the lens itself and try cleaning the inside. Is this wise? Is it possible? Worst case senerio, can I just buy a replacement lens? I've searched online and can only locate the snap on lenses (like smoke colored), which I don't care for. I like the clear lenses on my baby. My black 04 turbo "GT Cruiser" looks brand new except one headlight lens. It really ages my car. Thanks for any input. I plan on spending some quality time on the boards here as time allows. Look forward to getting to know my fellow cruiser friends. Karen

Ive had this problem before.... If its really bad the cleaners dont do anything and especiallly those headlight repair kits... just buy a replacement headlight, best thing to do... Ebay has them for cheap..

Yeah I've always wanted to do that but Its sooo much to go thru just to take that reflector out.... I wish the headlamps just simply come out in the first place like a regular car but u have to remove the wheels/bumper just to take em off!!

There is a product,,, comes in a silver package,,, called "Crystal View" it is available at most large parts stores,,, basically it has two wet sanding pads,, a buffing pad, a polishing compound and a sealer. It works great,, you wet sand with rougher grit, move on to finer, move on to polishing compound, finally seal. Entire process took me about 30 mins to do my right lens,, looks new. (left was replaced after an accident, and difference in the new and old I had to do something).
Web site says it takes 5 min,,,, I really took my time in doing mine. Here is a link. bestheadlightcleaner.com Tom Last edited by fastmdpt; 22 Apr 2008 at 06:47 pm. |
