Default Haggling with my husband...

So.. I love my husband.. but yeah.. we went and test drove a beautiful PT..
2002 PT Cruiser limited
there was a few issues:
windshield chip (or internal crack or whatever it's called)
small ding under chrysler emblem on back
small rust mark on hood right above grill

plus sides:
new tires
new brakes
new/rebuilt transmission
new sparks etc
500 dollar grill

So after we test drove it, Hubby took it upon himself to offer the guy 6,000 dollars.

My question is, are we stuck on that? Or are we going to look like total jerks if we call them back and try to renegotiate it? I really don't want to pay over 5,800 for it... Thoughts??

It is not over until you sign the dotted line. If you are having second thoughts, I would call him and explain. Sure, he is going to moan about it, but you are the one with the money.

It's your $$ so if it is above what your happy with then look for another. You're under no obligation to buy the car. If the owner wants to sell it at your price then all is ok. If he won't come down just say thanks and you hope he does well. Keep your $$ and keep looking.

Remember the Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules.

Thanks fellas I appreciate it. I think we are going to use the windshield as our bargaining tool, that will be the one thing that we will need to get fixed so hopefully we can talk him down a couple hundred lowering our price as well as the taxes..

Then we can add some nice ghost flames and have a great PT cruiser

I know my hubby really meant well, he just spoke too soon, he even admitted it, which is a lot coming from him

The chip, if it is smaller than a quarter, can be easily fixed. I had a chip on my wind shield and called 1-877-autoglass and they came to my house to fix it (I don't know if they operate nation wide). From what I understand, they drill a little and then inject a resin that stops the crack from spreading and that makes the crack essentially invisible. It costs about $60. I was very pleased with the results.

Cool Re: Haggling with my husband...

I agree with everything that's been said...EXCEPT...
the windshield repair.
At that age, odds are the windshield has a lot of tiny chips that make it hard to see at night anyway. The chip repair is what you do with a pretty good/new windshield that YOU would have to pay to replace - saving your $$.
In this case, use the cost of windshield replacement as the bargaining tool!
Just my 2 cents worth.

(And insist on an OEM replacement)
