the local shop around here estimated me about $400 to fix. I found a reman pump with lifetime warranty for $70. Doesn't look like that difficult of a job.

Hopefully changing the pump is all i'll have to do. I've only had this car for a week and know nothing about these cars. I bought it really cheap to fix and resell.
Nothing wrong with keeping it....lol

Replaced the power steering pump last night. Worked great for about 20 minutes then no power steering again. The fluid level is full and the belt is still there. A little confused

Maybe you need to replace some hoses?

i put a little more fluid in it and drove around for awhile and the power steering came back. hope it stays this time. the previous owner drove this car 2 years without it. Maybe an airpocket or something caused the problem.
i'm no mechanic but with the help of a haynes manual and 3 hours i saved myself $300 bucks.

Good to know. Mine has been making some whining noise. Any special tools needed for the job?

When the system is dry like that, while it is up on jacks, you should fill the reservoir, run the engine and slowley rotate the steering wheel lock to lock several times (checking the fluid level) to make sure there is fluid throughout the powere assist system. Sounds like it worked it's way into everywhere now.

I would recommend a Haynes manual to everyone who is willing to work on their PT themselves and likes saving money. It has saved me so many times. I use it for everything, even custom work.
