I own a 2002 pt cruiser last week saturday night i was doing 70mph on the freeway and there was a little missfire for a few seconds, it stop later a few blocks away from the house the car turn off ,but start again no problem
it was 3 am so i didn't check anything next morning it was ok today in the morning the car turn off at a red light and later it was missfiring and lossing power i made it home but the car didn't start again it took 10 minutes trying now it turn on but missfires like crazy rpm jumps from 400 to 1500 i am sure when it gets cold in the morning it will be fine my question is what can this be ? where can i start looking for the problem ? thank you for your help or any ideas Last edited by partyd; 18 May 2008 at 08:27 am. |

Install the new plugs and cables, when for a test drive 5 minutes car run just fine with lots of power, tonight we when out to dinner 7 milles one way about 5 milles back hoMe and the car die i have to walk 2 miles home to pick up my truck and pull the ptcruiser

320 Crankshaft position sensor reference signal cannot be found while the engine is cranking.
Sounds like a problem with the Crankshaft sensor. ![]() |

thank you, i was reading that on the old post here
what i do just replace it ? or can be something else, the cables and plug look ok my crankshaf sensor looks biger with 2 screws Last edited by partyd; 18 May 2008 at 10:05 pm. |

It's located on the back side of the engine just above the oil filter. If that's what you code is telling you, you can replace it yourself. The picture is from the Haynes Manual that covers the 2001-2003 cruiser. If yours is different on your 2002, Chrysler might have changed it or used a different one for some reason. Are you sure you aren't looking at the Camshaft Position sensor? That has two bolts holding it on and it's on the right side of the engine as you look from the front.

Personally, whenever I get a code for a sensor, I like to disconnect the battery to reset the computer. Sometimes these codes will get stuck in the computer and it'll keep running funky till you clear the computer. If it comes back, then take the money and effort to buy a new sensor. If I believed every code I got on my last car the first time, I would have been replacing stuff every other month.
