Does anyone know what causes the infamous tape marks? I thought it was the sun too, but I never got them on my bumpers while they were stock... I left my old front bumper out by the trash for nearly 2 months in direct sunlight and still not a hint of the tape marks. Good find on the WD-40 by the way! I will have to let my friends know.

When DC paints the bodies of the cars at the factory the bumpers are taped off leaving them the natural grey plastic color. The problem is that the masking tape they used also stripped the UV protectant out of the plastic. This causes the areas that are taped off to fade much faster than the rest of the bumper.

What I can't answer is why they ALL didn't fade the same way. Mine are painted now, but I never had the dis-colorization that a lot of cruisers received.

LOL! When I saw them on my wife's before we bought it I checked it out for body/frame repair. Looked and looked and couldn't find anything. I thought it had been rear ended and the shop did a poor job of taping. I'll have to try the removal method.

Thanks

hey hey hey, don't throw that bumper away! If you're looking to get rid of it you could send it my way. Anywho, back to the topic. If I didn't already have painted bumpers I would end up painting mine just because i don't like the look of the grey blobs they call bumpers. this is good info to know though because I see somebody down my stre.et is beginning to develop this nasty little anomaly.

Sorry mate, I already threw it out! Don't worry too much though, it was all smashed up from a high speed incident with a raccoon. The little beastie took out my radiator as well, thats how hard I hit him! The bumper had the bottom grille all split up and the paint was eaten away by bugs that weren't cleaned off...

Removal of the tape marks

DONE!

I used the 0000 steel wool and Back to Black.

Lets see how it looks when the Back to Black wears off!

I hope it stays like it looks, if not, I will run through the process again.

Thanks fellas.
