Hello,

I have a 2003 PT cruiser with 42,000 miles.
I just had the upper and lower motor mounts replace at ~ $500.00. Motor mounts are not cover under warranty per Chryler after 3 years, 30,000 miles.

Looks like you need to get them replaced ASAP
Are the mounts an issue?

YES,

My PT cruiser is stock.

I had them replace last week. I also had to have the AC compressor replace for ~ $ 1300, and my sunroof repair for ~ 1200.00.

Your the second one in the last week that getting totally ripped off by dealer prices. Why aren't you people finding a trusted mechanic for your repairs? Unless you aren't telling us all that was involved, for 13K you could have had a whole new air conditioning system installed and for a few hundred more, there's a place in California that could have made a convertible out of your 4 door and then there's no need to worry about the sunroof.

P.S. Only kidding about the convertible part but a whole new sunroof doesn't cost that much.

Agreed, unless it is under warranty the dealer will charge 1/3 to 1/2 more than an independent shop will.

I'm still curious as to whether or not the mounts are problematic on the PT? At 29K or at 42K miles, no car should need new motor mounts unless something major has happened to it.

I'm hearing about them more and more. If you saw the flimsy rubber on them you would be surprised they last as long as they do. The mounts (torque struts) for the Neon SRT-4 and the PT are interchangeable, but the rubber on the mounts for the srt is much stronger. If needing replaced I would get the srt ones or ones that are polyurethane filled. They will last much longer.

Well that's good to know. I'm coming up on 100K in mine & will preobably be wise for me to replace the Timing belt. While it's down I might just upgrade to the SRT mount for that part of the engine & the others as well. I saw link for a complete set of poly bushings for the PT posted in another thread for $115, I may look at upgrading all of this once the peak of summer is past & it starts to cool down a bit.

Cool. The tranny mount for the PT and neon srt-4 are not interchangeable, though I haven't heard of anyone having any trouble with that mount.
