Default transmission or shifter?

i have a 04 pt touring turbo, automatic.

lately the shift knob has been getting harder and harder to move back and fourth. the car goes into gears fine, its just that the actual shift lever is tough to move, very stiff and spongy.

anyone have any idea what this could be? im lost..

thanks

Welcome to the forum,

Sounds more like a shifter problem than transmission although the transaxle is a weak point in the drive train. Have you had the trans flushed since you've had it? What kind of miles are we talking about?

Most of us advise owners to have the transaxle flushed at around 50K. As I said, it's a weak point in the drive train and you don't know how the other owner treated his PT. Wherever you take it, make sure they use the correct fluid that Chrysler calls for (ATF +4) or the newer synthetic. Whoever does it can also look at the shifter linkage in case somethings comes loose.
