I'm not CREWZIN, but if I was a police officer and I stopped a PT, I'd let him go. Unless he had stuff to say otherwise.

I've gotten in all 5 tickets in my 19years of life...Only 2 of them were in the PT

OK, first, let me clear things up. There's only 1 Sheriff in each county, and I'm not him. Under him are the deputies, from Captains, Lieutenants, Sargents, Corporals and no striped deputies. Any one of those can stop you and write citations. Under all of them are a force of sworn officers called PSO's (Public Service Officers). That's me. I don't engage in traffic stops or apprehending suspects. I do write citations after the fact, like to someone who caused a traffic crash (they're called crashes, not accidents) and for violations of the non-moving traffic code like dark tinted windows or illegal taillights plus illegal parking. I respond to acts of vandalism and larceny at a home or business. Escort duty, found and lost property, traffic control and a host of other duties.

I can and do receive traffic citations (only 1 in the last 10 years) from a State Trooper (those guys have no sense of humor), but have received numerous "acts of kindness" from other in-state and out-of-state officers for traveling above the speed limit.

There is NO "quota" of citations that the Sheriff's office has to fill so a lot of discretion can be given by any officer that stops you so watch the way you respond when stopped. Discretion goes away if your doing 80 in a 50mph zone, school zone or construction zone.

Everybody has bad days, even officers so you might not get out of a citation even going 5 over the limit, and of course there are cities and towns that depend on revenue from citations so it's pretty certain your going to be feeding the town part of its income when you speed thru them.

Most LEOs (Law Enforcement Officers) are car guys so they appreciate a good looking car, but not someone showing off and putting people at risk in that same car, and yes, some women tend to get away with a bit more than men ....LEO's are only human.

Now, in the northern states, it's different. The POLICE have all the law enforcement duties and the Sheriff's department handle warrants and other duties not pertaining to traffic.

We used to have a POLICE department in the two largest towns here in my county, and I was a PSA (Public Service Aide) for one of them. Then the towns found out that it was cheaper to let the Sheriff's office take over law enforcement duties and disbanded the Police department. Most Officers were picked up by the Sheriff's department, including me.

Ron,

Put yourself in the LEO's place for a second. You stop a car on the highway for speeding. He pulls over and you get out of your patrol car and start walking up to talk to the driver and maybe passengers ....you can't tell, the windows are so dark that there's no way you can see how many people are in the car or what the drivers doing.

In the city, maybe it's not a frightening situation, but on the highway, there's lots of "bad" people out there that have no respect for the law and carry a weapon.

Watch COPS on TV and you'll see what I mean. It's not reality TV it's REAL TV. That stuff isn't made-up, it's real.

They can't pass window tinting laws for bad guys only. You can still have pretty dark tinted windows (drivers and passengers windows) that shade you from the sun and the rear doors and rear window can be darker still.

Besides, take it from me. When I first got the PT I had the drivers and passenger door windows tinted the same as the back windows. Nice in the day time, but scary at night. The only things you saw at night out any of the windows is whatever was lit up. Everything else was gone. Scary and dangerous. I had the tint taken off and went a shade or two lighter.

To a country boy like me that sounds totally backwards. I'm always watching my tail in the city and I don't feel comfortable or safe in cities. It's once I'm on the highway I feel that I'm surrounded by good folk!

I've been fortunate to not get a ticket yet since I do have a heavy foot. I do however realize that vehicles at higher rates of speed can go out of control quite quickly. I try to make sure that if I am speeding, I am only slightly over speed limit when meeting a vehicle, once past and no other vehicles in sight the go pedal gets pushed. That way I know I'm not endangering anyones life but my own. If I would get caught tho, I would feel as tho I deserved it, not that somebody was out to get me just because.

Lately I haven't done too much speeding. Mostly because I can get all the adrenaline rush I need riding my quad. It's legal to go fast a be crazy on that thing!

Ben

Yes, the city is a lot worse for crime, totally agree. Maybe I didn't explain it right but as far as traffic stops by LEO's, less happens in the city as far as getting hurt during a traffic stop (maybe because there's a lot more people around) as on the highway where the real felons (drug runners etc.) think they can get away because of the vast highway expanse and less witnesses.

But then again, we probably all saw that guy (paralyzed for life) being run down in the middle of downtown and the car sped away down a side street and all the pedestrians just standing around and not doing anything, didn't even get a description of the car. Think it was downtown Boston or somewhere like that. So having a lot of witnesses around doesn't always mean someone will say they saw what happened.

I can state I've only gotten one ticket, running a stop sign when I was 16. Cost me all of 50 cents. That was in a small town and over 50 years ago. All of the driving I have done in my careers I believe I have driven over 1/2 million miles.
