As I was sitting in his car I glanced over at mine and noticed the resonator directly behind the cat was hanging low. I walked over to my car, peeked underneath and saw the exhaust clamp had backed itself off. The pipe off the cat has a locating dowel in it and it mates with the resonator and holds the exhaust from twisting. With the dowel not in place the resonator was about two inches off the ground, and the whole exhaust system was tilted sideways and barely held in place. Now if any of my hangers would let go, it would be entirely possible that the resonator could slip off the pipe and hit the ground. The resonator would grab into the ground, not drag on top of it. Piping is strong, and it can very easily put the vehicle out of control. My brother had the same scenario happen when driving my parents Caravan, and it spun the van sideways when the pipe hooked the ground. Now do that at 100mph. The reason I bring this up is that I'm not doubting that there are good drivers here, it's that sometimes the unexpected can occur. I know that my car is in top shape. I am very confident about that. I was confident about that the whole day when driving my car until I spotted the hanging exhaust! I love driving fast, and sometimes do, and like the rest I've been lucky too. But sometimes it's not a bad thing to err on the side of caution.

Ben
Thanks you for commenting without being rude. It is much appreciated. I too shall drop it. But before I do, badger, have you ever heard the phrase you catch more flies with honey. I doubt your fire and brimstone is that effective. All you did to my driving attitude, was make me think of you and smile everytime i speed. Thanks!! Im out.

Ben, thank goodness you found this probem!

Just my last bit of two cents:

Yes, the unexpected can happen...I think everyone can agree with that...whether we are speeding or not. Just think of it...if any of us have ever sped in our life time, once we went over the speed limit by 1mph, we were considered to be irresponisble drivers and considered to be dangerous.

On the other hand, in Texas, once a driver has entered the freeway, he/she must be driving the same speed as everyone else, so as to not cause a collision (state law). SO, if everyone is speeding (which is more often than not in Houston) and a driver enters the freeway, driving the speed limit, but is much slower than the rest of the traffic, this may cause a wreck....it definitely causes traffic!!!

Granted, the person driving the speed limit is correct, for this purpose ONLY. Just something to think about...speeders are not always the ones causing wrecks....although everyone knows this.

In another thread I posted that I had my cruise set at 75mph. This is above the posted speed limit. For reasons you cite above, on the highway I was driving on, doing the speed limit amounts to going about 20mph slower than prevailing traffic and is therefore dangerous and irresponsible.

My beef in this thread was with racing on public roads, and other irresponsible driving.

I only hope no one has to learn things "the hard way".

I'm out until next time.

Oh wow!!!!!

I leave for a few hours and come back and read all this crap..

He was just sharing an experience he had on the interstate, wasn't asking for what kind of stupid, idiotic things he did while he did it. I'm not going to point fingers, but I bet every single one of you have broken a law, or 2.

As I was reading I wanted to lock the topic, just so we didn't have to witness a threat on the forums, lol, but I kept reading and you all came to your sense's and apologized (pretty much) and stopped. Good job!!

You guys make me soo proud

Air4cefamily,

You seem to be the one that up in arms about this more than anyone else.

PTmodrod just graduated high school yesterday. A whole life ahead of him. I believe he stated in an earlier thread that he bets he's a better driver than 99% of others on the road. How does that sound looking at the whole picture. Almost everybody thinks he/she is a great driver, especially the younger ones (probably including you), but look at the statistics. 16-20 year olds are getting killed on the highway faster than any other age group. Do you ever wonder why?

Do you wonder why your insurance higher than everyone elses? The mentality of most teens and younger people is that "it won't happen to me", but if they're smart enough to think about it, it CAN happen and probably will according to the facts. The other 99% of us just doesn't want to become part of it when you decide to go your own way.

I'm in a county here in Florida where the majority of the population is retired. For a fact, the majority of the crash calls I go on you would think involve that age group, but it's not. It's the younger population that are involved either in a single car or multi-car crash. Multi-car where teens aren't paying attention and showing off or racing (think Hulk Hogans son) or by themselves, speeding and unable to control the car EX: The Independent Florida Alligator: News - UF student dies after car crash

Crewzin, how about the 5 teens who died racing on the airstrip near where John Travolta lives, over 100 mph when they wound up in the trees.

Ernie,

I could have picked up a million stories from the Florida Internet talking about teenage crashes but I picked those two because Hogan's son has been on every news story on every channel and every paper in the land and the other was a UF student where I believe Josh (starter of the thread) is about to go.
