Well granted...but:

1. You're running it in a totally different vehicle (i.e. your results may vary) not an 85 Cavalier w/5 speed manual and 2.0 L four.

2. My estimate was from about ten years ago, so I could be off in my memory. (I could be off by as much as 5%) As I recall I only ran the oil for about a month due to the mileage drop off.

3. I was running 5w FIFTY not forty weight which may be a significant difference in viscosity. 50 weight was a HUGE difference in oil pressure. I was runnig Mobil 1 5w 50 synthetic btw.

I agree 10% is extreme, but this is my recollection. Take it for what it's worth. I think we have to assume there will be some mileage penalty going from 30 weight to 40 weight.

Take your wifes car back down to 5w 30 and see what happens to her mileage....

Tom

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I CHANGED THE OIL SENDING UNIT 3 TIMES BEFORE I FIXED IT. MY PROBLEM WAS THE OIL SENDING UNIT LEAKED OIL ON THE WIRES CONNECTED TO THE OIL SENDING UNIT. I REPLACED THE WIRES AND ITS BEEN 3 MONTHS AND NO OIL LIGHT COMING ON. HOPE THIS HELPS

I've had four sending units replaced for leaking.
