I just fixed this same problem today with the 2 back doors on my 2003 PT. The reason this happened is because I never lubricated the latches within the door jams. What I did to correct this was to remove the rear seat, then remove the inner door panels with the windows up. Once the panel was off I removed the inner window track so I could see the mechanism clearly with a trouble light. I then squirted WD40 all over it then worked the rods back and forth and kept pushing the button on the door handle from the outside. After a short time of working these the door opened right up. With the door opened I then wire brushed the corrosion off the U shaped hook opposite the latch and further lubed the latch with more WD40 then greased it and worked the latch back and forth with a scew driver making sure it moved freely. The doors open and close fine now and I didn't need a new latch assembly. The tools needed are a phillips head screw driver, a Torx driver and/or 10mm socket to get the arm rest off and the 2 bolts holding the window track in plus my fingers to pry off the panel. The whole job was pretty easy and didn't take much time all.

I know what I have to do today. Put a little white lube on the door latches.

I have the same problem with my 2007 - the rear passenger side door was fine - then all of a sudden it won't open from the inside or the outside. It's not locked - I can pull the door a little away from the frame, but can't figure out what is wrong it. Did anyone ever solve this problem? I have an extended warranty, but don't really want to spend $100 to have the dealer fix it.

Did you not just read CoolhandMike's reply ? Wouldn't that solve your problem?

Actually, I had not seen it as I had only looked at the first page of the responses, but my door locks and unlocks, so can it still be the latch? Sorry - I don't know a lot about cars or how the door mechanisms actually work.

Well, if you don't want to spend the $100 for the warranty, looks like you'll have to do the same as CoolhandMike and take the inside door panel off to find out what's making yours not open.
