I'm keeping my '03 PT. It still dosen't have 40,000 miles, gets good mileage, and it should last me a long time. Besides, what gas I'll save with the PT, I'll use in this:

Did you do anything special to break in the engine? I just hit 1k, mileage is hovering about 18mpg in town. Ugg...Problem is it is all city driving with stop lights which I know is a killer.

Was thinking about going to synthetic oil on second oil change to see if I can get an extra 1-2mpg.

Thanks, it's an automatic, and is all stock right down to the pias ply tires. I bought it from a dealer who tried to sell it on the e-rag and couldn't. I was at Carlisle also and I was very impressed with the quality of the cars there. My car is in good shape but not quite as good as those you see at Carlisle. The mpg on my PT is mid twenties around town and on all highway it's around 33. On my whole trip to Pa (950 miles) it worked out to 31mpg. I think that if I hadn't got stuck in a traffic jam in NY on the way home, it very well could have been at 33, which I got on several other segments on the trip. BTW, tell me the year of my car from this angle.

I always use synthetic oil. Since 1994 all my cars, no matter how old have gotten synthetic. So it's not 'special'. I just drove it like I stole it to get the rings seated properly .... like I do with all my new cars.

Hey there...

Just jumping in on the thread...

I have an 05' Convertible, Electric Blue PT, Touring Edition 2.4L Turbo. Been thinking of trading up to a GT convertible model....but here is my problem:

1.) Where I live in So. California the Premium gas is at least $4.99....and going up. (Required for the GT version)

2.) The GT gets less mileage to the gallon. I am strictly a city driver...getting about 19-20mpg.

3.) The cost of USED GT's here are starting at about $20k, for an 05' version.

So, what's a girl to do? Been thinking about getting a V6 Mustang Convertible....running on "regular" gas, yet more horsepower (210)? Also, they are less-expensive than the GT version.....is it because the Convertible GT's are getting rare?

A penny for your thoughts?

Dezi

brindez, Welcome to the Forum !!

Seeing that PT convertibles are no longer being made, I do think that the price of them will start to rise. Probably because you live in Southern California and the demand of convertibles will be high because of the weather.

On the other hand, going to a Northern State to buy one this winter may be a better option, IF any are left.

I paid 22K for the Roadrunner. I guess I was just lucky with my PT. I've had good mileage from day one. It may be the way I drive it. I short shift through the gears and stay in overdrive as much as possible. I also set the cruise and stay around 65 on the highway. I try and keep a light foot on both the gas and brake, which is what I think makes the difference for me.
