The mpg on my PT is mid twenties around town and on all highway it's around 33. On my whole trip to Pa (950 miles) it worked out to 31mpg. I think that if I hadn't got stuck in a traffic jam in NY on the way home, it very well could have been at 33, which I got on several other segments on the trip. BTW, tell me the year of my car from this angle.
Mid 20s mpg around town with an automatic? 33 mpg on the freeway? Hmmmmmm. Creative math? Good herbal and creative math? Good herbal, creative math and a kinky calculator? Sorry, I've heard some funny claims on these forums the last eight years so I'd have to see it to believe it. I've had three PTs with two of them being automatic and no matter how easy I drove I never saw that kind of mpg. I got mid 20s in combo city, highway and freeway with the automatics.

Cool Re: To trade up PT's for MPG's or not?

Hooligan,

Thanks for the welcome!

For the last several days, I have test driven 5 Mustang Convertibles.....and none has been "it" so far.....it's always something, like rattleing, chips/scrapes on car, wheel mis-alignment!!

So, maybe the PT is my destined car?? At least until I can afford that red and tan convertible BMW 335Ci!!! On thing's for sure, I DON'T have any air leaks, or squeaks when the car hits the road!!!

By the way, just to annoy all you "Easterners" I'm enjoying high-70's weather here at the beach!!! (Am I mean or what???)

Happy weekend to all!
Dezi

If you go back and re-read that post you will see it is a two part answer. The first part is about my Roadrunner, and it may get 10mpg if I'm lucky. The second part of the post is about my PT which is a 5-speed. And there is NO, creative math , or kinky calculator involved. That is the mileage I get with that car. I do not, and will not, make boastfull claims just to look good. I just try to tell it like it is. And I'm not the only one on this forum, in the several differents posts about mileage, that have said that they get simular mileage. Even I find it interesting that there is such a wide range in gas mileage that pervails with these cars.

Hey y'all,

My dream of having a "muscle" car has been laid to rest, so, just to let you know, I'm gonna hang on to my PT Convertible for a while! I just didn't want to pay more than my $108/month payment! (Yes...I got a KILLER deal on my ride!!!)

By the way, I get around 23 mpg/city, and 31 mpg/highway on my automatic! I dunno how you guys drive, but I've had to "grandma" it just to save a few $$$! I'll tell ya one thing....I got WORSE mileage on my last PT wagon, Limited Edition, non-turbo.

Have an AWESOME weekend, my new friends. I'm taking my PT, two sets of golf bags, and playing the game with my husband this weekend! Should be great top-down weather all the way there and back!

Tu amiga,
Dezi

My bad. I know an automatic will never get that kind of mpg. I had a 5 speed '03 GT modified to 280 hp that I could get that kind of mpg if I totally stayed out of boost. The automatic PTs really suck for mpg. Both our '01 and '04 PTs were purchased new and we were lucky to get 17-18 mpg in combo city, highway and freeway driving. As they got older combo mpg went up to 22-24. The Roadrunner looks like a nice ride, but the 10 mpg must really suck. I'd love to have a nice old musclecar, but that kind of mpg would hurt the fun. That's why, in this day and age, I'm happy to have my '05 Neon SRT-4 because it's modded to 350 hp and it's nice to have a 12 second car that can get 22-24 mpg when really getting on it and 30+ mpg if I keep my foot out of boost. A turbo'd 4 cylinder is nice. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Hi all, I just filled up my tank and calculated 30mpg on my GT. I've taken my rear seats out to save weight (since the kid rids the minivan ) and I've been averaging 27mpg in the last 4 fill ups. But then I've been really easy on the car too and not going over 68mph. I hope to achieve high 20s for the remaining summer.

Not a problem. I can understand that the people with low mileage find it hard to beleive that some cars can get good mileage. As far as the Roadrunner goes, it is a good clean car. No signs of rust anywhere. I can live with the mileage it gets because I don't get to drive it as much as I would like to. And most of the shows I go to are within 20 miles of home so it's not all that bad. And if I'm going farther then that I can take my '64 Barracuda which gets around 15 mpg, still not great, but I look at the bright side, the gas mileage on that car is 50% better then the big block!

Got a pick of your Cuda? I passed up an opportunity when I was about 15 to buy a 64 Cuda because it was too far gone. Do you have the 273 in your car or went bigger? I wouldn't mind getting an a-body, but I think I'll stay away from the Cuda's, they're going up in value too much. Maybe if Dusters stay cheap I can get one of those...

Here you go. I got real lucky with this car. It was delivered new in Alabama, and spent most of it's live in the south. It came to Ct in '96 and was then kept in a garage. I have yet to find any signs of rust on it.

Drove downstate this weekend; cruise set at 75 mph, only pulled down a shade over 22 mpg.
