cruise control problems

I have a 2001 pt Cruiser and love it. But the cruise control is starting to give me problems. Some times it will work, some days it wont? The indicator light comes on and all, But some days I can try to get it to engage and it just won't, then the indicator goes out and will not come back on. Then the next day it will work just fine? Some times it will work till I put on the brake, then it just will not engage again? Any one had any of these problems? Would love to get it fixed since i drive 72 miles to work each day!

Most likely-a vaccum line is split from age and is leaking intermittently. Check all vaccumn line connecton to the system and let us know what you find out.

I don't think its that, it always brings up the indicator light. It just will not work all the time.

I have checked the vac line and it holds vac good. I wonder if the contacts under the steering wheel need cleaning? I am afraid to try to get it off because of the air bag.
