Does anyone manufacturer a Class 2 hitch for the PT?
I want to use a hitch mount motorcycle carrier. The bike weighs about 330 lbs (Suzuki DR-Z 400) and the carrier itself is about 50 lbs. Class 1 hitches are only rated for a 200 lbs tongue load. TIA. Tipsy |

I don't know anything about hitch's but according to my 2001 owners manual you can tow up to a maximum of 1000 lbs (450 kg) and the maximum frontal area of the trailer cannot exceed 20 square feet.

![]() It's not a trailer so the weight won't be "towed" but applied directly to the tongue. A hitch is built to resists to the horizontal force a trailer will induce, not for a vertical force. Like you said, a North-American PT has a 1000lbs towing capacity, i.e. the horizontal towing maximum capacity. So a Class I hitch is intended for this car (2000lbs max. for a Class I). The problem is that a Class I hitch can handle a 200lbs tongue weight maximum, which is under the ~400lbs of his setup. And I'm not talking about the small receiver a Class I has, so less structural strenght to support the "torquing" force that a carrier like this will cause. Well...I tried to keep it clean & clear but...is it understandable enough?! I'm kinda confused myself...

Not that I am recommending this, Princess Auto in Canada has a class 3 universal on sale for $140 Canadian. I have looked at it and it is adjustable. Here's the link.
