Man, my PT Cruiser is really acting strange.
I''ve done some digging on this topic, so it seems I''m not alone: (2001 Stalling) Anyways, the 2003 PT Cruiser was stalling after running for at least 10 minutes. Any time I came to a stop, and the revs dipped below 1000, the car would just shut off. There was no hic-up, no choking, just a clean stop, as though it was totally intentioned - like someone very decidedly shut the car down. I could even reproduce the problem at will. If I was in a parking lot, let it rev really slow, and make a slow turn to the left, like I was parking, she''d stall for sure. Very strange. Once she stalled when I was turning left at an intersection - could have been dangerous, but I was ok. So, this was really bad in March. However, I started driving my BMW, and left the car for about a month. Of course, the battery died, and I replaced it. Funny thing, the problem was gone when I started the car back up! Anyways, the problem came back with a vengeance. It was stalling ALL the time. It was just nuts and made the car undrivable. Having the big brain that I do, I decided to disconnect the battery for a week. Sure enough, that seemed to have fixed the problem! So, I''m wondering if the computer is ''learning'' something? Does disconnecting the battery for a few days reset the onboard computer for some reason? It just seems like a really strange way to solve the problem of a stalling PT Cruiser? 2003 PT Cruiser Turbo - 115,000 km (Automatic) -Cameron McKenzie |

Here are some more complaints with the same PT Cruiser stalling problem happening with the 2004 model year. Mine's doing the same thing & seems to be getting worse. No solution yet, but I'll post back here if I find anything.

CarComplaints.com has a complaint about the same thing with the 2006 PT Cruiser stalling but it's just one complaint so far.
If you search Google for something like "2007 PT cruiser stalling", that same CarComplaints.com page about the 2006 stalling comes up, so maybe that's the last year it was a problem... |
