Default Oh the failures

Well, the car is at a local Chrysler dealer being worked on. It seems that when Dallas Dodge did the inspection they were paid for...um, they didn't inspect anything. What they DID do, was plug into the OBDII port and clear the check engine lights and turn off the airbag light. Last time I talked to Cross Roads (my local Chrysler dealer) the list of problems is currently at:
1) Failed IACV
2) Blown lower motor mount
3) power steering pump or sensor failure
4) oil pressure sensor or sending unit failure
5) passenger seat belt tensioner failure
...etc

Wow....I would really get on the phone with that dealer in Atlanta and ask for an apology and maybe a brand new PT? lol

Sorry to hear that, Ext. Warranty?

Hey Dirk_Gently,

My first question is, since they cleared the computer, have you driven it, or idled it for a length of time, and then rechecked for codes?

A while back, I had my battery completely die on me while in storage. It had a reading of like 4 volts, and wouldn't even turn on the interior lights! Since it is a deep cycle Optima Battery, I quick charged it for a couple hours till it had enough juice, and then ran it around for a bit. I got on it a little to let the engine breathe a little, and apparently a combination of the battery not being fully charged, and my getting on the gas a couple times, it tripped 5 codes by the time I got home, including the Oil Pressure switch, TPS Senser, Air Bag Light, ABS Failure, and so on. I was pretty sure it was a voltage issue, but to be safe, since my mechanic was booked fpr three weeks at the time, I decided to take it to Chrysler to run a computer diagnostic. They immediately said everything was bad and gave me a $870.00 quote to fix it! Out of curiosity, I swung by my mechanic, and asked him real quickly about it. He hooked his laptop up, checked the engine which was fine, cleared the codes, and never had a problem of any kind since!

So you may have had some false codes due to a low battery, and nothing more! If you can recreate the systems again after the codes were cleared, then you know you have a problem! If the codes do not come back, you should most likely be ok!

Anyways, it might give you something to look for! Best of luck!

It's a good thought Candyman, but the codes popped after a day or so of driving (approximately 5 key cycles). I checked the battery and the charging system hoping things were just going to be electrical issues - no dice. Battery is perfect. Charging system doing its job. Fuel regulator has now failed. *sigh* At least that's a good excuse to stick a Walbro in I guess.

That really sux...and none of this stuff is under warranty? I am sure you checked...you're supposed to be excited about having a new PT, not dismayed.

Hey, sometimes dealerships will have a #-day warranty, you just bought it right??? Maybe you have a warranty like this, that you aren't aware of? I would just call 'em and let 'em know what's up, and inquire about "their guarantee"...

I bought the car as is\no warranty. I wasn't totally an idiot, I paid to have a seperate dealer (chrysler dodge dealer) inspect the car. I told them to go over it with a fine tooth comb because i was flying in to get it and was not interested if it wasn't good to go. They "checked" it. It seems all they did was clear all the trouble codes, destroy a wiring harness and lie about the condition.

Yeah...that's true....still....you are supposed to be happy about your new baby...

Well, I guess it's better to fix everything now...and because you will personally fix it, you'll know the job was done right!
