My maxcare warranty ends in 700mi. The year of the car is the 2001 limited.
I plan on milking the warranty dry before its too late. As of now it has 59,300 miles (roughly) and I am not a "gentle" driver. I see the dealer Thursday for a "check" on the vehicle. The only things I could think of to check would be the Motor Mounts (upper and lower) and the wheel bearings. Can you guys think of anything else that I should "add" to the check up? Thanks fellas, DJ

If you have no issues, and you just want the service facility to check out your ride and your extended service contract only pays for failed items--how much do you plan to spend on this effort and to what depth do you want your vehicle checked out?

well my deductible is $106 and if it is worth it for me should the car need bearings or those bushings, the lower motor mount I could always do myself.
Its tomorrow so we will see what they can find going wrong or what ever. Is there a charge for diagnosis?

Cuz...without any problems, you don't necessarily want them to "fix" sumthin, if it ain't broke or if nuthin's actin up...although you have a warranty, you still would have to pay the deduct...

As I understand the Extended Warranty Plans sold by Chrysler or anyone else for that issue--No covered repairs make-no Plan payment forthcoming.
The diagnosis (check it out) cost will fall to you as that is what you agree to when you sign the work order. Hence my question--how deep of check out do you want and what are willing to pay out of pocket if no covered repairs are found and performed. Be careful what you ask for as you might just get it. |

If your dealer is anything like the ones I have dealt with, unless you are bringing it in for a specific complaint, you will get charged for the time to "check things over", in addition to the deductable if any covered components are found to be defective and are replaced. An overall "checkout" would be preventative maintenance, which isn't covered under the warranty.
Some dealers can be a real PITA when it comes to what is covered and what isn't. I used to own a Ram 1500 pickup, which had the transmission crap out under warranty. The trans was rebuilt under the warranty, and ran fine. But about a year after the rebuild, I changed the trans fluid and filter as part of normal maintenance, and found a fair amount of fine debris (clutch i presume), plus a large piece of a broken snapring stuck to the magnet in the pan. ![]() I snapped a few pictures and finished the fluid/filter change. I dropped by the dealer a few days later with the pictures, the receipt from the previous transmission rebuild, and the broken piece out of the pan. Told them what I found, and requested that they give the trans a thorough inspection to find where the piece came from. The service manager said that because the trans was currently operating correctly, they would have to charge me for the transmission teardown/rebuild, but that the cost of the broken snapring would be covered! If the transmission failed within the remaining warranty period, they would cover the complete rebuild. It held together for about 20,000 miles (now out of warranty, of course), before it started slipping and shifting strangely. Unloaded the truck soon afterward and bought my PT (from a different dealer!). |
