Cool Re: MODIFIED WINTER RIDE

Hey their careyk,

This is unfortunately all I have left. Please keep in mind, this was way in my younger days when I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, and basically learned as I went!

This truck started out as a worn out beat to hell farm truck I bought for $800. It was a 1980, which we later changed to a 91 front clip from Pick A Part. With a lot of help, and even more beer we somehow managed to rebuild the 454, and left it be for a while. However, with my really bad habit of never leaving well enough alone, and my life long obsession with being low to the ground, we proceeded to pull the body, and bed off the chassis and do a bit of tinkering around. We started at the frame, cutting a C-Notch in the rear to slam the rear axle up into the fenders. Then my suspension friend fabbed up a 4 link in the rear, and then bagged both front, and back. Then we got really ambitious and cut the floor of the entire body out, and re-welded it 4" higher so the body could drop to the pavement, and squish ketchup packets. Why did we do this? At the time we were all dumb kids, and thought this was the coolest thing ever to go cruising on Saturday Night! We even had the good old piece of 1/4" diamond plate under the back roll pan to spark when we dropped the rear bags. I swear, I did most of my learning about body filler, and custom metal work on that truck, mostly just from trial, and error! I even painted it once from 2 tone brown to Corvette Yellow over white, and then put in a black carpet kit, and black vinyl seat covers, along with a matching headliner, and hand dyed door panels. I was gonna fix the front left fender which was messed up, and repaint it red before I sold it to a friend. I tell you, I honestly had more memories, and good times in that old truck to last a lifetime! Here is a pick of it all in primer before I fixed the fender as you can see just behind the wheel just before the door. I never did get to re-paint it, and wound up selling it for $1500 to a friend of mine. Later on, he went up north, and I never saw it again. Still to this day, I wish I never sold it! Anyways, here is the pic.

Take er eazy!

Hey their guys,

Thank you for the props! As always I really appreciate it! Even more so on a project that never quite got finished!

As for the ride height, the bags would bring it up 6 1/4" which though was still pretty low, was good for driving, or towing a car trailer around. That's actually a full 2 1/4" higher than my PT is sitting now. LOL

When the bags were out though, the truck layed the rockers on the ground! Our goal was to squish ketchup packets....we were successful! The only downside was having to eliminate about half the depth of the bed to get the wheels to tuck.

On the upside, I pretty much learned how to shave the bumpers, fab, and smooth the custom sheet metal to fill in the holes. It was my first time painting, and my first interior that I did pretty much on my own.

The last car I did, and probably spent more time on than anything was one of my friends Bug. It started life as a regular old 74 beetle, and we took it, and chopped the top off, removed, and glassed in the front, and back fenders, filled the handles, and the top of the doors to make a permanent roadster, had a fiberglass rear cover made for it, and the mod list goes on, and on, as most of them do. It was the last car I ever painted, using Mitsubishi Silver, over a 3 stage Cadillac white pearl. Here's a couple pic's

Anyways, thanks again for the props! I really do appreciate it!

Take er easy!

Hey their careyk,

As always, I appreciate the Props! I owe a lot of my love for cars from my dad! He is a Metallurgist by trade, and all through my younger years, he had a large aerospace metal fabrication shop here in the LA area. What got me into cars was, he had a big shop located in an industrial park in Stanton CA, and the building across from us was a big Hot Rod Shop called Fat Jack Enterprises. Jack was the guy who built the 32 Roadster owned by Billie Gibbons, and was featured in the ZZ Top Video "Legs". Jack also at the time had a painter by the name of Boyd Coddington who used to help Jack's son, and I paint model cars, and bicycles when we were kids. Another guy that used to hang around the shop working with Boyd on design work for Jack, and who we used to hang around a lot at car shows was a now well known guy by the name of Chip Foose!

I pretty much grew up around these guys from when I was about 9 years old, till we moved when I was around 14. Back then they were just nice guys that made cool cars across from my dads shop! It was because of those guys that I learned to draw, paint, design, Detail, and just love cars! Though I never pursued Automotive Design as a career, its just a part of me, and something I enjoy, probably more than anything!

So I still can't help but be involved on some level of working on a project every now, and then! Even if its only on paper now, I still have such a blast!

Anyways, sorry to be carrying on! I just started typing, and it brought back some old memories!

Thanks again for the Props! I used to have so much fun working on project cars! Anyways, take er easy, and stay cool my man!
