Default Sites dieing?

For those that are a member, or visit the national PT Cruiser Club site:
For the past couple days, there has been a page error popping up when visiting ptcruiserclub . org As of this morning the following is showing:

"Notice: 10/17/2008
Due to the recent downturn in the US economy we are no longer able to maintain this web site.
This site is permanently closed."

I hope this is not permanent.

Any clue if there just weren't enough memberships to pay the bills? I'm guessing from the number of new posts in the member section that there were, but I have no clue who or how the site was being done...
I do hope it comes back up. Hopefully it was just a hijack or something nasty, but not permanent.

And the domain name was reregistered in June until 2014... No clue on the site host.

It appears the site is down for good, if you check Mike's other site HHR Club it is down also and says the same thing. Due to economic down turn this site is no longer able to be maintained. Our local club in Pacific Northwest is still going strong, everyone is welcome to join us if you are in the area. We welcome everyone to become part of our famliy, the fellowship is the most important thing. Happy Cruisin !!! Welcome to TVCC

It is a sad thing, but part of the times. For anyone asking about Cruise The Rockies this year, we have re-located the Colorado PT Cruiser Site at:
Colorado PT Cruiser Club_If You Haven't Cruised Colorado, You Haven't Cruised

I'm just wondering what the "recent downturn in the US economy" has to do with this site...

I really have to say that the PT Cruiser Club web site was always very good. I used it as my home page for years and am sorry to see it gone. Probably tough trying to make a living from a web site like that. In this case we all are down a bit.

I am defiantly no Big Time Charley when it comes to web sites, but I do have two sites that I publish. Now these are just regular sites without forums etc and a lot of disk space but I have a lot of space that I do not even use. I pay ten buck a year for the domain names, and sixty a piece for each site. That is not expensive, at least not to me, when I shell out almost that much a month for gas in my cars. I suppose there is something I do not understand here, but I have lost over $25,000 and counting in the downturn and I am not looking at dumping my web sites.
