Default Headlight Lens Causes Failed State Inspection

My wife's Cruiser failed the Va. State Inspection this past weekend. Firestone called us and said it is not allowing enought candlelight because of the cloudy lens. They said they could take care of it for $95.00. I laughed and said no! So now we have a big failed sticker on the car and have 14 days to get it re-inspected. I picked up a kit ($19.95) Sunday to do it myself, but it has been to chilly to sit outside and do it. Hope to get to it soon.

We used rubbing compound to clean up our lights on our Itrepid.Worked well and lasted quite awhile.

Good luck John. If it makes you feel any better, we had a freeze last night down here. Supposed to warm up to about 77 this afternoon.

You might want to give these guys a shot

Crystal View The Best Auto Headlight Restorer Defogger Cleaner

Other PT owners have had good results. Some even mentioned that it was available at local Autozones/Walmarts and didn't have to order.

Actually, that's the kit that I purchased. Got it at K-Mart.

Cool Re: Headlight Lens Causes Failed State Inspection

Right!
- either try to repolish for light transmisssion; or "pull a part" at your local junk yard; or check out e-bay.
**If you ever have a new Cruiser, or put on new lenses; I recommend the X-Pel lens overlays. They are rated for rock impact at 120 mph, and protect against the UV damage/clouding of the lens.

When I had my GT inspected, they marked "headlights repaired" on my inspection form. I guess they figured the age and mileage, they shoulda been foggy and failed, but I used 3M heavy cut compound to clear them up. You have to go over them a crap load of times, but when they finally come out, its beautiful.

I used the "Crystal View" product on Friday and the Lens are like brand new. It took about 30 minutes per lens. It involved 2 levels of basically "wet sanding", and then cleaning. Then apply a bonding agent and wipe clean again. Then applly the final coat of the sealant and they came out GREAT. All ok with the inspection now.
