So a kind thief decided to shove a screwdriver into my door lock. They didn't actually get into the car, but they managed to make the lock unusable with the key.
I have manual door locks. The dealer wants about $300 to replace it. I checked on keyless, that's pushing up around $400 (for keyless & an alarm) - they say it's higher because some sort of adapter needs to be put in the doors due to the locks using a cable instead of a rod. Both of those options seem stupidly expensive to me. Would it be feasable (and cheaper) to try to find a lock at the junkyard, get it rekeyed & replace it myself? How hard would it be to do? I am fairly handy, but am by no means a mechanic - I don't want to do more harm than good. Thanks for any guidance or suggestions. |
