Default Two Position to Four Position Power Window Switch

Greetings

I am a new member and love my PT!

I have a 2001 Limited Edition PT with the 2 front window switches in the console. I have purchased a 4 position switch off ebay so I can have access to opening the front and back windows without having to reach around to the rear seat switches. Has anyone done this? Changed from a 2 to a 4 position window switch?

Thanks - great forum!

The theory behind the 4 siwtch control is straight simple. The fact that you will have to find places to tie into the wiring for the back windows and bring that to the switch makes this a lot more that a Saturday moring job.

Unless you have time and a lot of determination--this may not be someting for the faint of heart.

For the first couple of months (May to August 2000???) the PT Cruiser came off the assembly line with only the 2 switch window control. I guess someone in control at Chrysler finally got to ride in the car and saw how utterly stupid the idea of having the rear windows be controlled by switches on the floor at the rear of the console. By the end of August, beginning of September, the 4 position switch was in place.

As BLUEH20 just said, the wiring won't be there so it's a whole new job to hook up a 4 switch plate but probably a worth while project if your handy and plan to keep the PT for a few more years.

On the other hand, you do have a unique cruiser as not many of them were made with the 2 position switch.

Thanks Guys - I appreciate your help. I do have a service manual, but I'm not sure I want to tackle this. It sounds like I would have to splice the heck out of everything. Humm....I sure do want front access to those switches..

Thanks again!

I did not desire to put a downer on you project. The only real hassel with it is the running of the additional wire from the rear door window motors to the new switch position in the dash.

If you an find the power/groud and traveler wires for the switches as installed somewhere in the forward portion of the cab--this may be a lot easier than first anticipated.

Don't let some psude-tech, me, turn you off.

If you decide this project is to much trouble, I'd be interested in buying the 4 button switch from you.
