HELP! Problem with inflating tires

I'm the new owner of a 2008 used vanilla PT and I love it...first car I've ever bought on my own and I know I made the right choice. However....living in Kansas City where the weather has dipped into the teens and my "Tires Need More Air" doohickey light has come on. Tire pressure is at 26 now and should be at 32. Go to Quick Trip today to take care of problem and the air pressure valve on their air machine will not fit on my valve. Apparently this happened to previous owner b/c I noticed (for the first time) the scratches on the rims where the valves are located. I go to Quick Trip for the free air, but free doesn't help me when their thingie doesn't fit on my thingie. Do I have to go to the dealer to get air in my tires? Is it just my rims or is this a common problem? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

I have a 2008, I know of no difference in the valves. The dealer that the car came from in a dealer trade and replaced the air with nitrogen and the valve is the same. I use my own compressor and nozzle, the same as I have used on the 2002 & 2006.

Aint nothing free!

Go to a tire shop like TIRE RACK, TIRE PROS or any tire dealershp and i believe you will get all the inexpensive air you need. Also they will tell you right up front if your valve stems are for another world.

I do believe that the problem lies with your free air supplier machine--not your vehicle.
