Just brought home a 2006 PT and it didn't come with an owner's manual. I was hoping someone out there might be able and willing to tell me how I can determine if the car is equipped with a keyless remote entry receiver? I would like to get a remote entry key or fob, but would hate finding out later that it wouldn't work with my model.
Thanks very much. |

Hi jcmoran,
You can either order or download an owner's manual directly from the Chrysler website. Starting on page 24 of the manual is the section about the remote function on the keys for vehicles equipped with keyless entry. My Chrysler: Chrysler Owners Service Manuals - Chrysler Cars, Minivans, SUVs, Convertibles, Crossovers According to the manual, the keyless entry keyfob is programmed at the factory, so I would think a Chrysler or Dodge dealership would be able to look up your PT's VIN and determine whether or not your vehicle was equipped with this. I don't know that much about the PT other than what I've learned by reading these forums. (I've had my 2006 PT since July 2008.) I do know the dealers can make new keys based on the VIN number of your vehicle. The keys are embedded with chips, so if you lose a key, and have a plain key cut from a locksmith, it will not start the car but it will open the doors. The Dodge dealership parts dept. manager told me this when I asked about having extra spare keys cut. ($50 for the special key and $50 to program the chip in its base.) You will need to go to the dealer and give him the VIN and he'll have to cut the key and program the chip in the replacement key base before it will start the car. Hit up your local dealership and see what they can find out for you. Good luck and enjoy your PT.

Yeah, I only got a key, but I did download the owners manual from Chrysler and based on that, I believe I do have some form of security system, because when I turn the key on, I get a full array of lights on the bottom of the speedo going through their self-tests, and one of those is the security indicator light.
I need to make an appointment with a dealer to have the rear quarter panel windows taken care of, as that was a safety recall item. I will take advantage of that time to find out for sure if a set of remote key fobs are doable. Thanks very much for the input. |

HEY JC!
A reminder that if the dealer says it can be done...only get a quote, and look on e-Bay for key fobs. You can probably save a hundred dollars or so that way!
